Willow and Brandon, two sixth grade students, created a bullfrog skeleton display for the zoo to help teach visitors about animals. After visiting the zoo and talking with zookeepers, they learned what kinds of displays would be both helpful and interesting for guests. Using 3D printing technology, they are designed and built the skeleton while learning how to work with TPU filament instead of the more common PLA material, and sometimes using a mix of both. They actually ended up using Resin for the project. This project required careful attention to detail to make sure the skeleton looks realistic and stays together properly. With help from Michael Alexander at Arkansas State University, they have learned new printing techniques, improved their designs, and solved problems along the way. Through this project, they are gained new skills and created a real educational tool that will benefit the zoo and its visitors.
