The goal of our project is to allow the public to be able to experience the history and beauty of the cave from the comfort of their home. We have used an Insta360 X4 camera and captured high quality 360 images. This allows the viewers the ability to explore the caves just like if they were there in real life. This camera is ideal for telling a story visually and creating an experience for the viewer. Once we capture all the images we switch them from .png to a .jpeg then upload them to Kuula. Kuula is a platform that allows us to build and share virtual tours.

This project is deeper than just providing access, it also promotes conservation. The Blowing Caves has a great history spanning back over 12,000 years and is even home to over 90 species of wildlife. Unfortunately human activity can harm the cave, such as leaving trash behind, disturbing water flow, and even damaging crystal formations. Offering this virtual tour we are able to reduce foot traffic, minimize litter and even protect the delicate ecosystem in the cave. This project will help preserve the cave for future generations to enjoy.

Critical thinking plays a big role in determining the best way to capture the cave features while minimizing the environmental impact. We have learned how to use new technology, like the Insta360 X4 camera effectively to ensure the tour is engaging. We have also considered the long-term effects of this project, such as reducing foot traffic to help protect the ecosystem and to help educate viewers about the importance of preserving the cave.

As a team we have all grown in technical photography skills. We are learning to solve problems and help the environmental impact of the cave. We have also learned how technology can help play a part in protecting natural spaces.

Our community partner Aaron Christopher of Poke Bayou Outfitters and the property manager of the Blowing Cave, has been a great help guiding us to align this project with the cave's preservation needs. This partnership has given us real-world experience.

Collaboration and teamwork have helped make this project successful. Each one of us brings our own unique skills and ideas. We have worked closely together to create a meaningful education tool that supports the cave's conservation goal.
