Our city food pantry, Hamburg Helping Hands, and our student food pantry at our school were seeing empty shelves. With spring break approaching, one of our students noticed and wanted to step up to help make sure we had food to send home with our students over break. Students organized a food drive competition with our rival school, where over 10,000 items were collected!
These students have worked with Hamburg Helping Hands Food Pantry and AR Food Bank to expand upon the food resources available, since our county is a food desert area. The Helping Hands Food Pantry already offers pickup once a month in town, but is hoping to expand to the people living in the delta region. This means finding more food sources to be able to provide a bigger service and more advertisement of the service offered. A student has created a new logo using Canva and organized volunteer opportunities, such as organizing and bagging. We hope to use more advanced technology as we continue to work with these partners. We are excited to help the food pantry to continue to expand to better serve the people in our area.
