Batesville’s Pioneer Family Resource Center, The HUB, provides essential necessities to families of Independence County. From diapers and hygiene products to clothes, food, and educational materials, The HUB supplies many basic needs to underprivileged citizens of our community. Community partner and HUB coordinator, Lorrie McClure, noticed there were a large number of families that needed the help of the center, but did not have adequate transportation. Ms. McClure contacted EAST@BHSC for help in creating The Mobile HUB. EAST students Faith, Bentley, and Ashlyn immediately jumped in. The team was able to secure a vehicle for their project thanks to the Batesville School District Transportation Department’s generous donation of an older school bus. The group spent countless hours taking notes and measurements to completely redesign the interior of the bus. They created model renderings of the completed project using SketchUp and Canva. With the help of Racheal Roofe and Wiley Osborn, from the Intimidator Group, the team completely remodeled the bus. Bookcases and shelving units line one wall, a tech station, and area for free medical screenings line the other. In the back, a storage area allows for all supplies to ride securely. The new Mobile HUB will drive to communities throughout Independence County, taking HUB resources directly to those in need. The Mobile HUB is expected to be in service starting in the summer of 2025.
