Maya Jefferson wanted to make a difference for children admitted to the local hospital in Hope, Arkansas. After learning that all donated items had to be prepackaged due to COVID-19 guidelines, she connected with Christie Waller at Southwest Arkansas Regional Medical Center. During their conversation, Maya discovered a specific need: something to keep children occupied while waiting in the ER.

Inspired to help, Maya came up with the idea for Hope Sacks—thoughtful, kid-friendly care packages designed to brighten a child's day and ease the wait. With the support of her mother, she purchased coloring books, crayons, and stickers, assembling them into cheerful gift bags. Each bag was sealed with a custom sticker that read, “Hope Sacks, created by Maya,” proudly featuring the Beryl Henry Elementary EAST logo.

When Maya delivered the finished Hope Sacks to the hospital, the staff was thrilled and eager to start handing them out to young visitors. Her thoughtful project brought smiles and support where it was needed most.
