The EAST students at Mountain Home High School were recently contacted by the North Arkansas East/West Corridor Association in regards to helping with their efforts of educating the public on their mission; to educate others on the importance of improving US Highway 412 as it stretches across the northern part of Arkansas.
It is important to fully understand the motive behind the NAEWCA:
There are two critical points of interest:
First, it is important to understand that this project is an economic development project. Without the improvement of US Highway 412, the northern portion of the State of Arkansas will continue to decline and will not see the utilization of the underdeveloped assets along the corridor. The potential is there; the accessibility is not.
Secondly, we do not expect to get up one morning in the near future and see a superhighway across the northern portion of the state. The NAEWCA is advocating between the State Executive Branch, the State Legislature, and the ArDOT that a comprehensive and concise plan be completed that outlines the operational, functional and financial requirements to improve US Highway 412.
The economic impact a project such as this would have:
-Job creation from highway work
-Job creation from new enterprises
-New residential increase will create a positive impact
-Improved economic growth
Where does Mountain Home High School EAST students fit in? We have been asked to create an overall brand, marketing materials, and a website for the North Arkansas East/West Corridor Association. Students have used Adobe Photoshop, Canva, and Sublime Text (HTML and CSS) to begin this project. They have researched and learned the process of creating a domain name, how to properly host a website, how to write content utilizing “keywords” for Google searches, and how to properly brand a non-profit organization.
The completion date is set for April 1, 2019. The new website (www.highway 412.org) and marketing materials will be used to promote the expansion project which has been supported by Governor Asa Hutchinson.
