EAST at Norfork obtained an old disk from the Art Room closet last Fall that contained a large amount of pictures including Norfork and surrounding areas such as Mountain Home, Cotter, and Calico Rock. Students began by organizing all of these photos into folders based on location and type. A former retired teacher at our school has subbed this school year a lot. One day while subbing for EAST he noticed we had a list of projects written on the whiteboard with a to-do list. One of those were to reach out to the local historical society/museum. It turned out that he was actually a board member. He came by after I was back and informed us that their upcoming exhibit was going to be Norfork.
This gave us a direction on where to use these discovered pictures. We selected relevant ones for the community's upcoming Spring/Summer exhibit of Norfork. This project addresses the real-world problem of local heritage being lost or forgotten, and it is a major collaboration between EAST, the Art department, and the Historical Society.
C- We discovered a collection of historical photos on an old CD in the Art department closet. We identified the challenge of organizing these hidden treasures into a professional exhibit for the Historical Society. We organized all of these photos into folders and selected relevant ones for the community's spring/summer exhibit of Norfork.
A- We advanced our skills by retrieving data from an outdated medium and using graphic design tools like Canva to create professional-grade placards and displays. By designing original responses that met the specific communication goals of our community partner, we improved our ability to share historical information accurately and concisely with a public audience.
R- This project addresses the real-world problem of local heritage being lost or forgotten. By preparing the exhibit for the April 18th community event, we are fulfilling the Society’s mission of "Preserving the Past for the Future".
T- This project is a major collaboration between EAST, the Art department, and the Historical Society board. We worked as a productive team to meet our April 2nd setup deadline to organize and set up for the community event on April 18th.
