T1D was inspired by a fourth-grade student whose older brother was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). While at school he kept having his snacks crushed in his backpack. That’s dangerous because he needs those important snacks! So, three 4th grade boys created a prototype of a snack box that hangs on a lanyard. They have been working to create a 3D printed snack box that is similar to their prototype. They’re working with our school nurse, Nurse Gill, to make sure it holds both a high protein snack and a sugary snack. Nurse Gill is also helping them make sure their final product not only gets to our student's brother, but other kids in our district that are in need. They’ve made so many prototypes in Tinkercad and Bambu Labs; printing, testing, fixing problems, and printing again! They think they have one that will work, but they need to drill holes for the lanyard. Once it’s perfect, they’ll give one to the brother and share the design with schools all across Arkansas to truly make a difference with Type 1 Diabetes in our community.
