Brushing Buddies

For dental health week in Pre-K, two EAST students created oversized 3D printed teeth to help young children practice bushing and flossing. At first, they had to learn how to use Tinkercad to design the part. After preparing their design, they discovered quickly that 3D printers can be tricky and can have issues. It seemed that one problem after another arose. Finally, when all printing issues were resolved, and the design was refined, they were able to print a set of teeth. They delivered the “dentures” to the Pre-K class and provided a bushing and flossing demonstration, then allowed the kids to practice. The students sharpened their critical thinking skills, collaborated with other EAST students to help solve 3D printing problems, and managed to help the Pre-K teachers with manipulatives to promote learning of healthy dental practices with their students.
