This project was created to help a community member who is blind and deaf. She had relied on her husband to handle the task of writing checks to pay bills. When her husband became ill, her daughter came to us in EAST and asked if we could help design a device that could help her mother be able to sign checks in order to pay bills. We had a student who researched accessibility solutions, tested sizing and positioning and refined the design to ensure that it was accurate, durable and easy to use. This check signature template aligns the check so she can successfully sign a check to pay bills. This project shows how technology can be used to meet a need while promoting independence and dignity.
