Pottsville High School team members Brooke Myers, Chloe Motley, Bayleigh Gibson, and Reece Clemmons were ready to get started day one. They noticed that many residents in assisted living centers and nursing homes struggle with basic everyday tasks and often have to call for help for simple things. For example, residents may need assistance opening a bottle or cleaning their glasses.

To address this problem, the group designed and 3D printed adaptive tools to promote independence and improve quality of life for these residents. Some of their creations include a wheelchair cup holder, a bottle opener for screw-on lids, a glasses cleaner, and a pencil holder. The students designed their models using TinkerCAD and printed them on the BambuLab X1 Carbon 3D printer.

This group is working closely with their community partner and expert in the field, Ginger Dixon. Mrs. Dixon is the RN DON (Director of Nursing) at Legacy Heights Nursing Home in Russellville, Arkansas. They have already delivered multiple rounds of tools and are excited to continue creating and providing even more adaptive devices in the future.
