The Blueprint for Beautification Floor Plan Project was developed to address a real-world need for positive and collaborative atmosphere and design. GEARUp, an organization that helps students prepare for college and career readiness, needed a detailed and functional floor plan to assist in organizing and optimizing their workspace. The existing layout did not fully support program activities or efficient movement through the facility.
To solve this problem, EAST students created a professional-quality floor plan using Layout 2025, a digital design and drafting software. This program allows users to visualize, adjust, and refine building layouts in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional views.
How the Project Fulfills the CART Mission
This project directly supports the CART mission by providing a learning environment that connects academic skills to real-world applications. The EAST program encourages students to engage in community-focused projects, integrating technology, collaboration, and problem-solving to create meaningful outcomes.
Through this project, the student applied technical and creative skills to meet a genuine community need. By working with a local organization and using industry-standard design software, the student gained practical experience while demonstrating how technology can positively impact organizations and their clients. This collaboration exemplifies the CART model of hands-on learning, professional communication, and innovative thinking.
What Makes This Project Unique
What sets this project apart is its combination of technical precision, professional tools, and community partnership. While many student projects focus on conceptual learning, this project produced a tangible and functional result that directly benefits a community partner. The use of Layout 2025 allowed for a level of accuracy and visual detail typically seen in professional architectural and interior design work.
Additionally, the project highlights the value of student-led innovation. The EAST student not only completed the design but also took the initiative to collaborate with GEARUp representatives, collect space measurements, and adjust the plan based on real feedback. This iterative process mirrors professional design workflows, making it both educational and impactful.
Community Partner Involvement
Our community partner for this project is GEARUp, a college and career readiness program that supports student success through academic guidance and enrichment opportunities. GEARUp staff provided input on their spatial needs and reviewed design drafts to ensure the final layout aligned with their daily operations.
