Students worked with the Little Rock Zoo Farm Keepers to design and build chicken nest boxes for the chickens. These nest boxes will be used behind the exhibit for the chickens to nest in. The design was tricky. We had to measure everything and meet the needs of the keepers. To get a layout of our ideas we used tinkercad to create a 3d model of our design. They wanted to make sure it had a vent and was easy to clean. We even added roosting sticks on the front of the drawers. At the top you can see the gap we added for a vent. We measured everything and that was so challenging to get right. I feel like we measured and drew lines on our plywood a thousand different times. After we got it all measured we had our teacher cut the wood with a circular saw. After that we used the brackets we bought and attached everything. The last step was to paint it. We just delivered it and plan to finish making one more nest box.
