Welcome to the Train Delay Hotline app, your tool for helping Gentry solve its train crossing challenges!

For years, Gentry Intermediate School EASTlings have tried to solve the problem of blocked train crossings, yet they continued to hit brick walls in the process. However, three determined students—Lee (5th grade), Clayton (4th grade), and Wade (3rd grade)—took it upon themselves to make a difference. When their call to the Canadian Pacific headquarters didn’t connect them to the right people, they contacted local leaders, including Mayor Kevin Johnston and Mrs. Janie Parks from the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, who suggested they call the number on the blue "Report a Problem" signs located at each crossing for information.

Their first idea was to create and post a train schedule, but the EASTlings learned from the CPKC representative that trains transporting coal to AEP don’t follow a set schedule; they run whenever fully loaded, making it hard to predict when crossings will be blocked. They also learned that if community members consistently call the "Report a Problem" number and share the crossing numbers, it will help alert the railroad company to the issue. When enough reports are received, the company will investigate the situation and work to fix the problem.

With this app, our EASTlings made reporting blocked crossings simple and effective for everyone. Together, we can help solve the train crossing issue in Gentry!
