What’s the Project About?

After talking with some of our classmates, we realized that many were unsure how to use certain gym machines at the YMCA when working out. So, we came up with a solution: placing NFC (Near Field Communication) tags on the equipment. Now, when someone taps their phone on a machine's tag, a video tutorial pops up showing them exactly how to use it! We also made sure the videos were accessible to everyone by recording in English and Spanish!

What We Learned and Did

In our EAST class, we:

Explored NFC Technology: We learned how NFC works and how it can link to online content like videos.

Created Video Tutorials: We filmed and edited videos demonstrating how to use each piece of equipment safely and effectively.

Programmed the NFC Tags: We used apps to write the video links onto the NFC tags.

Designed the Cover: We designed instructions on how to use the NFC tag and glued them together.

Installed the Tags: We placed the tags on the machines at the YMCA, making sure they're easy to find and use.

Why It Matters

We learned how to collaborate, solve problems, and adapt when things didn't go as planned. Now, anyone at the YMCA can tap their phone on a machine and instantly watch a video to make working out less intimidating.
