We realized the need for this project because our facilitator was at a basketball game when a man had a heart attack. The workers were volunteers, not school employees, and did not know how to locate the AED in the building. Because of this experience, our project was dedicated to getting the AEDs marked across our school campus. We developed flyers and placed them around school that tell where the AEDs are located in each building. Posters are located in each classroom that tell the closest location. Teachers were also given their building’s AED information to add to their substitute folder.
This project will solve the problem of people not being able to find the AEDs, which could someday save a life. To our surprise, even school employees did not know the locations when we were gathering pictures and location information on campus.
Our SRO, school nurse, and counselor were our community partners. They helped with location information across the campus. Clients could potentially be anyone on our campus in need of an AED.
Our team took pictures of each AED, printed a location for each building, and laminated a copy for each classroom. Teachers were also given a copy for their substitute folders.
