The third and fourth grade GT EAST students hosted a Night of Code on Tuesday, November 29th. We set up four stations for the students, parents and community members to visit.

1. Computer Lab 1 - code.org

2. Computer Lab 2 - Scratch

3. EAST Classroom - Maker Space with Sphero, Ollie and Makey, Makey Go, and iPads

4. Library - presentation on the Apple TV using the iPad to teach participants the importance of coding in the 21st century

We also partnered with the Media Specialists at our school and shared information about the library databases that are free for students to use and showed participants how to use the QR code reader to scan books and get them on their devices. We designed the presentations using a variety of different software. We used Google Slides, Google Drawings, Powtoons, and Microsoft Office to create them. We presented them on the overhead projectors in each room and then on the Apple TV in the library. We did a short presentation in each room, then allowed the participants to get some hands-on experience with coding while we were around to help them if they needed it. We had over 70 people in attendance. In the EAST classroom, the participants got to see how Ollie and Sphero work with Tynker and how Makey, Makey Go works with Scratch. The reviews were awesome and everybody walked away learning more about coding than when they arrived.
