Monticello EAST Students Receive Multiple Grants

Monicello EAST received the Arkansas Game and Fish Outdoor Classroom Grant, Weyerhaeuser "Excellence in Recycling" Grant, and the Farm Bureau Mini Garden Grant.

Arkansas Game and Fish Outdoor Classroom Grant

Monticello EAST students, Stephanie Kulesza and Caycee Guy participated in the ground breaking ceremony for the outdoor classroom area as the Pat Knighten from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission presented Mrs. Turah West with a check for $3000.00 to fund the project. Lee Fleming from the Arkansas Forestry Commission presented 4 Schumard Oak trees for the area. Phase I of the area will include a pavilion, nature trail and observation stations around the pond.

Weyerhaeuser "Excellence in Recycling" Grant

M onticello EAST students, Katie Burch, Ashley Horn, Meri Whitney Zeiman, Sanders Lewis and Megan Harrison recently received $1000.00 to jumpstart a recycle program within the high school. The goal of this project is to begin collecting paper goods, plastic bottles, aluminum cans throughout the school day.

Farm Bureau Mini Garden Grant

After receiving a $500.00 grant from Farm Bureau, Monticello EAST students will soon begin their square foot gardens which will be included in the Outdoor Classroom Area. Students are collaborating with the Drew County Extension Office to design and establish the gardens and are working with the Food and Nutrition classes to maintain the area.
