Students blend technology with ancient history.

Brookland EAST and middle school GT students hosted a Wonders of the World Expo on April 21 in the school cafeteria.

The students researched and prepared display boards for 14 wonders of the world. They were challenged to create models of each of the wonders, but use a technology aspect on each as well.

Students were paired into teams to create the models. Several engineering feats were accomplished when the students made taped sculptures of the Colossus of Rhodes and the statue of Zeus. Cardboard and paint were used to create the Colosseum.

Collaborating with multimedia students, the EAST students used Final Cut Pro to create a video of each of the wonders. They also created a rendering of the mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnass in SketchUp. Augumented Reality technology was used as well.

One group made a cake and decorated it like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and served the cake as refreshments to the approximately 150 parents and students attending the expo.
