Dedication caps five-year EAST project serving Pine Log Cemetery.

Brookland High School EAST culminated a five-year project Friday, April 22 by dedicating a computer screen directory kiosk at Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland.

For several years students at Brookland EAST have been walking the cemetery and recording birth and death dates of those buried there. Once the data had been gathered, the students created an Access database of the information, and received help from Tiger Commissary in learning to program the kiosk, which was donated by Tiger.

Nestle of Jonesboro donated funds to build the brick kiosk structure, which houses the computer terminal/screen. People of the community will now be able to check the birth and death dates of an individual and identify the section of the cemetery where they are buried. Approximately 5000 are buried in the cemetery, which covers about 50 acres.

The students will continue to work with Foster’s Monument to keep the database updated.
