EAST President and CEO is among eleven new members inducted into Arkansas Academy of Computing at April 15 event.

President and CEO of the EAST Initiative, Matt Dozier, was inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Computing at its 2011 Induction Banquet April 15 at the Fayetteville Country Club.

The Academy, created to honor an “Arkansas Hall of Fame” of the computing industry, held its inaugural meeting in 2006 and includes key Arkansas computing industry pioneers such as Bob Oliver of IBM, Walter Smiley of Systematics and Charles Morgan of Acxiom.

A primary goal of the AAoC is to provide scholarships to further computing education in Arkansas colleges. In 2009 the organization began a small-scale scholarship initiative and granted five $500 scholarships. Since then it has increased the scholarship amounts and breadth of distribution.

Mr. Dozier was selected for his work with the EAST Initiative in helping schools implement and maintain special classrooms where students perform community service projects using state-of-the-art technology. EAST (Environmental and Spatial Technology) classrooms often provide services not otherwise available in small communities. The projects are student-directed, and increase problem-solving and higher-thinking skills while also providing valuable real-world technology skills.
