Students job shadow during important time for Cross County Tax Collectors office.

Wynne High School EAST students Sarah and Hannah were recently given the opportunity to Job Shadow in the Cross County Tax Collectors office. The students shadowed for a week during one of the most important times of the year, the mailing of tax statements.

The opportunity was suggested by County Tax Collector Debbie Davis. Ms. Davis allowed the girls to help put tax statements in envelopes and prepare them for mailing. The students also helped Ms. Mazie Ballard fold and sort the statements.

Sarah and Hannah both observed all aspects of the tax collector’s job while helping out in the office, and got first-hand knowledge of how important this office is to Cross County. “As a county tax collector, you not only have to have a lot of patience, but also knowledge of various computer programs, as well as secretarial and organization skills,” stated Sarah Bowen. Hannah said, “It certainly is a big job and I was amazed at how much money is collected through taxes in Cross County”.
