EAST students help raise over $18,000 for elementary school technology upgrades.

The second year of an event that was widly successful in his first year is always an interesting undertaking.  Will the event be a one hit wonder or will the community come together again and make the second edition an even more successful venture?

Those questions and more were answered at the second ever Creston PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) Carnival.  Last year, more than $10,000 was raised for technological upgrades, including more Smart Boards, Elmos, I-pods,  and other assorted software and hardware, as well as school supplies for grades 1-5.

This year, due in large part to the foresight of the organizers, the event experienced an even greater level of success.  When the proverbial dust had cleared and the hundreds of attendees had left the building, a total of more than $18,000 was raised.

Instrumental in the success of the carnival were the Creston High School EAST students, who provided more than 80 game workers to help run the myriad of the events that the carnival included.  Games and activities were wide-ranging and included an inflatable jumper, face painting, cake walk, soccer kicking, bowling, basketball shooting, baseball throwing, marble painting, fortune telling, miniature golf, bean bag toss and much, much more.

The EAST students used their video skills to document the event and presented copies of the video to the administration and sponsors of the event. They were also actively involved in set-up, operation and clean-up of all of the activities.  For their outstanding efforts, the students were awarded a certificate of appreciation from members of the PTO.

It was  a great way for the students to further establish a positive rapport with the elementary-aged studetns and their parents. EAST students have worked on multiple projects with the elementary students over the past few years and will continue to do so in the years to come. In addition, we believe that introduction to the various technologies will only help the students as they are hopefully involved in EAST in the upcoming years.
