With the recent downturn in the United States economy, schools are always looking for ways to raise money to buy books, upgrade facilities, and afford to offer a meaningful list of classes as well as to provide an adequate listing of extra-curricular activities.  The Creston High School Booster Club and Creston EAST classes recently united on a venture that everyone over the age of 16 could enjoy…test driving a new Ford vehicle as part of the Ford Company’s Drive One 4 UR School program.

On a rainy and windy day in November 2010, 225 Creston residents braved the conditions to test drive one of the six Ford vehicles offered by Creston Automotive. Vehicles included a 2011 F-150 truck, a 2011 Ford Taurus, and a Ford Focus among others.

For each vehicle driven, the Ford Motor Company gave $20 to Creston High School. Each addition, each driver had his or her name named put in drawing to win a new laptop computer.

Along with the test drive experience, Ford Motor Company offered a video contest documenting the event, with the winning school receiving a check that matched the amount raised from the test drive. The video was to have original content that would capture the spirit of their event along with highlighting Ford’s commitment to their local communities.

EAST students interviewed drivers and documented the event for the contest video.  Although the Creston EAST classes did not win the video competition, a total of $4,500 was still raised by the event.  That money was given to the booster club and will be used on its capital project this year.

The EAST classes are already planning for a second edition of this worthwhile event later this spring with hopes of raising even more money.
