Students prepare to grow vegetables for local food bank.

Growing vegetables in winter isn t easy, but it can be done.

Berryville High School EAST students have begun building frames in the EAST community garden to grow vegetables for the Loaves and Fishes Food Bank. Though growing vegetables in winter can be tough, the garden project team believes it can succeed.

It is with this initiative that they persevere through the cold to help bring fresh vegetables to local families in need. Lots of research had to be done by the entire team, to learn which foods that would be popular to eat can be grown; the tools necessary; measurements for planting rows and frames; and local businesses that could offer help, advice, and in some cases donations.

In addition, flowers are being planted around the campus as a way to improve the aesthetic value of the grounds for visitors, parents, and the student body. Flowers are being planted as memorials, and for science classes to study.

The students have high hopes for accomplishing the goals of this project!
