Students collect canned goods for community and help out at food pantry.

Mountain Pine, Arkansas (Dec. 9, 2010) – Mountain Pine High School EAST students Justice and Serech are pleased to announce that in this year’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive over 100 pounds of canned goods were collected for the citizens of Mountain Pine.

Sophomore Justice stated, “Doing this project for the community makes me feel as if I am doing good for the community,”  and concluding that helping others makes her feel like a better person. “Just knowing that we have helped give these families something that they can’t get on their own, gives me a sense of peace,” she said. Also a sophomore, Sereche said, “Yeah, I could never imagine not having food on the table at Thanksgiving, so knowing that because of us they will, makes me happy!”

Malea Ellison, EAST facilitator, and Serech and Justice followed up by helping at the Harvey’s Chapel Food Pantry. Wednesday November 17, 2010 the students arrived at Harvey’s Chapel at 9 a.m. for the opening of the food pantry and clothes closet. The students gave away 73 boxes of food for the citizens of Mountain Pine. The clothes closet allowed the citizens to find clothing they need to keep warm. Justice and Serech helped the shoppers find the things they needed, and carried the boxes out to the cars for them.
