Event preparation, organization pay off, with over 250 attending.

Nettleton High School and Nettleton Junior High’s EAST Night Out was an event that is still being talked about!

The event was held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 6:00 until 7:30 in the adjoining junior high and high school classrooms. It was an outstanding event for the schools involved, the community, business leaders, students, parents, and administrators.

Over 250 attended the event. The public was impressed by what the students are currently doing in class and how they are making a difference in their community with the use of cutting-edge technology.

Upon arriving, guests were asked by student greeters to sign in and to view the project boards in the hallways. Guests then visited the classrooms and talked with students about their projects and technologies being used. Presentations were given by individual EAST students and students also answered questions about their projects.

Invitations were sent out to the public and were also emailed to all parents and guardians, inviting them to the event. It was announced to the student body and on the school website. Administrators were invited personally by students involved in the EAST classes.

To prepare for the event, students created “What is EAST?” videos using Final Cut Pro. They also created project display boards, work samples of various software, and in conjunction with the EAST 2011 National Service Project, set up a USO Kiosk with informational flyers and a computer displaying the USO website.
