Wynne High School EAST student places second in PSA competition.

Wynne High School EAST student Alex Ragsdale placed second in the Dropout Prevention PSA competition held by the Criminal Justice Institute, a division of the University of Arkansas System. Winners of the contest were announced October 18, 2010 and the cash prize award of $500 was given to the EAST lab on November 2, 2010.

Thirty-two students across Arkansas completed in the public service announcement competition. Students created public service announcements that showed the negative side to being a high school dropout.  Alex made the film using her own photographs and music selections. The Criminal Justice Institute plans to use the winning PSAs as part of a promotional campaign to continue efforts to increase school dropout awareness.

By creating a PSA like this, Alex hoped that it would “wake up other students across Arkansas about the dangers and effects of dropping out of school”.  The cash award will be used to buy supplies and a new camera for the EAST lab.
