About Michael Gealt

Michael A. Gealt leads the academic division of Central Michigan University as the Executive Vice President & Provost. Gealt received his BA in Biology from Temple University and his Ph.D. in Microbiology from Rutgers University. After working as a researcher in the Pharmacology Department at Rutgers Medical School and at the Fox Chase Cancer Center (Philadelphia, PA), he was appointed to the faculty in the Department of Bioscience & Biotechnology at Drexel University in 1978 and was later the Director of the School of Environmental Science, Engineering and Policy at Drexel. In 2000 he became dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science at Purdue University Calumet (Hammond, IN) and in January 2006 he was appointed as dean of the College of Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). He has been at Central Michigan University since August 2013. In addition to academic positions, he has also been involved with the promotion of education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines and, in addition to being on the EAST Board of Directors, has served as Chair of the Arkansas STEM Coalition and as a leader in the efforts to bring a UTeach program to UALR for the training of secondary school teachers in science and mathematics.
