About Jim Boardman

Prior to assuming the position of Assistant Commissioner of the Research and Technology Division at the Arkansas Department of Education, Mr. Boardman served as Assistant Director for the Information and Technology Section.  During his last eight years at the Department, he was a   member of the Senior Management Team of the agency and  performed various administrative functions including drafting legislation, proposing and presenting rules and regulations for consideration by the State Board of Education and testifying before multiple legislative committees and subcommittees.  

He also had managed and held supervisory responsibility for six units at the Department whose goals and objectives centered on technology and data administration.  Among the primary roles of those units were (and still are) the development and implementation of a statewide distance learning program, maintaining and improving the department’s technology infrastructure and capacity, providing technology resources, and monitoring technology programs in all schools in the school districts within the state.  Mr. Boardman also served as the project director for three IES Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems Grants.

His support was critical to getting EAST out of its pilot phase and he championed both EAST’s legislative support and the creation of the Nonprofit as it grew out of the state system. Upon his retirement he was the first recipient of the Board’s “Directors Award” at the EAST Conference.

He retired in December of 2013
