GPS / GIS In Trimble-less World "BYOD" Bring Your Own Device

Trimble GPS hardware and software have been staples in EAST for years. The tools are great - but there are levels of complexity and they are pretty much stand-alone.  EAST Programs upgrading often are looking for a cheaper alternative than Trimble. So if you are looking for an avenue to work with devices like smartphones and tablets look no further! Or if you want to upgrade your current GPS solution - there are options! Using tablets and cell phones, you can now collect GPS data points in the field and have them automatically show up on a map for all to see using the power of ArcGIS Online and the ArcGIS Collector App for iOS/Android.  This session will introduce you to GPS/GIS concepts without the need for Trimble GPS units or software.

ITEMS TO BRING: Note this session is BYOD--each participant MUST bring an iPhone or Android phone, or an iPad or Android tablet to this session in order to collect GPS data.  Again - you MUST bring a device - no devices will be provided. The phone/tablet MUST be running the latest operating system available to it.  Additionally, each device must have downloaded and installed the "Collector for ArcGIS" App before coming to training.  Cell capacity (data) is not required - the apps will work offline.
