Introduction to Python (Regional)

You must login to register for training sessions.

Introduction to Python Programming will take students through the process of designing and creating simple programs with the Python Programming language. Students will create interactive, aesthetically pleasing programs using free and open source tools. All of the software and training material will be made available to students to download.

Python is an open-source, free programming language that is used by ESRI in the ArcGIS products, is the backbone of Blender (3D Modeling and animation), and is in use by Google in the Google Apps Platform. Python is a simple, yet powerful, language well-suited for beginners and experienced programmers alike.

Activities –

Students will walk through a set of pre-defined exercises to get started. This is a list of possible activities that students will be guided through.

·        Creating a Temperature unit converter that runs in the command prompt.

·        Creating a Windows Form interface for their converter.

·        Making a weather dashboard application using a library.

·        Interactive Rock-Paper-Scissors Game with Logic

·        Tic-Tac-Toe Game with LogicITEMS TO BRING:  Students are encouraged to bring a flash drive to save their work, but not required.

PRE-REQUISITES: Knowledge required for the following and will NOT be covered in this session.  * How to work with coordinate systems in a 2D plane;  *Inverse fractions (reciprocals), simplifying fractions, and fraction multiplication; *Know the difference between integers and floating point numbers;   *Order of operations (arithmetic)
