Prairie Grove Middle School students collect pop-tabs to benefit the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House in Little Rock.

Ten 7th grade students from Prairie Grove Middle School traveled to the Siloam Springs Iron and Metal Recycling Center last Saturday to collect pop-tops off of recycled aluminum cans to benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House in Little Rock.

Once at the recycling center, the girls piled into the back of a tractor trailer loaded with 99,000 crushed aluminum cans. The girls loaded buckets of cans from the semi, taking them inside the center, where they could listen to music and visit while removing the tabs. After three hours of hot, and at times unpleasant, work (due to the contents of the cans!), the girls celebrated their success with pizza purchased by the wonderful EAST chaperones who also participated in the event.

After a few more tab-collection outings, all the tabs will be recycled and the money will be delivered in person by the Pop-Top for the Cause team to the Ronald McDonald House in Little Rock.

Members of the Pop-Top for the Cause Team are: Madison V., Taylor D., Taylor H., Mattie H., Hannah K., Autumn R., Kristen M., Sarah B., Carly S.,  and Lauren H.
