Eureka Springs High School EAST Program celebrated “Winter Holidays Around the World” during its International Day event December 9, 2009.

Eureka Springs High School EAST Program celebrated "Winter Holidays Around the World" during its International Day event, at the Eureka Springs High School, last December 9, 2009. The EAST Program collaborated with the High School Foreign Language Club (DUDE).

Special guests included Fourth Graders, teachers and parents from the Eureka Springs Elementary School, KESA Radio (101.9 FM) morning weatherman Richard Schoe and High School students and teachers. International Day is held every year to encourage the sharing of global information and develop an understanding of international relations.

The full day schedule of activities included displays and presentations in the morning and a potluck dinner in the evening. During the morning, there were computer games, maps, posters, and PowerPoint presentations that were created by EAST students Kenya, Morgan, Sydney, Jeremy, Irene (Rotary Exchange student from Taiwan), Philipp (Exchange student from Germany), Rebecca, James, James, Artie and Nathan. The students showed how countries celebrate the winter holidays in Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Poland, Russia, Spain, Taiwan and Thailand.

To prepare for the International Dinner later that night, EAST students read through numerous international food recipes. EAST students Artie, Irene, Jeremy, Nathan, Morgan, Philipp and Sydney and their families prepared dishes for a delicious International Dinner. Delicious dishes and desserts from Brazil, China, Czech Republic, France, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Russia and Scotland were eaten with much gusto.

The EAST Program is an elective high school class that encourages students to use advanced technologies to solve community problems. For more information about the EAST Program and how you can support international understanding, please contact Mila Lynne Floro at (479) 253-2936.
