BHS EAST Nature Challenge Teaches Elementary Students About the Environment
12/17/2009 11:16:05 AM

This fall, Brinkley High School EAST students created presentations to help elementary students learn about the natural world around them.

EAST students created PowerPoint presentations about identification of native trees and birds, as well as geology of the area to be shown to Partee Elementary 3rd grade students. Mrs. Martin, elementary GT coordinator, also used the EAST presentations with other students during her enrichment classes.

After each presentation, students went outside to identify trees, and to bird watch and record their observations in nature journals. The EAST students had also created a coloring book in Microsoft Publisher, which reinforced the material in their presentations. Coloring books were distributed to the third graders.

The EAST Nature Challenge team consists of students Heather, Jessica, Melody and Courtney.

Heather teaches students about nature journaling as they identify types of trees.

The third graders were excited about bird watching!
