Brinkley High School’s EICP summer program provided opportunities for EAST students to use video, mapping and photography to highlight the unique beauty of the outdoors.

During a two week period this summer, five high school EAST students mentored other BHS high school and middle school students as they learned about video production and editing with Final Cut Pro, mapping skills, and digital photography editing using Photoshop. As a result of the program, the students produced three public service announcements, two interactive maps, and numerous postcards. The videos can be seen at http://www.schooltube.com/video/39045/Apple-Club-Lake-Waterfowl-Rest-Area-A-Delta-Destination ;

The interactive maps produced used student photography to show what is offered at Dagmar Wildlife Management area, Apple Lake Birding Trail and the Louisiana State park. Robyn Dennis and Chris Angel from CAST spent three days with the BHS mapping group and students from Dewitt EAST helping the students improve their mapping skills. Students continue to work with CAST and hope to get the maps published to the web soon.

In addition to the photos used in the maps, the photography group made several beautiful post cards out of their outdoor photographs. These post cards have been given out at several events to promote the natural beauty of the areas around Brinkley and will soon be offered for sale at several area businesses. At the conclusions of the program, EAST students presented their project to members of the community at an open house.
