Eureka Springs High School EAST students recently presented their "Developing GIS Community Projects" at the Arkansas GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Users Forum Biennial Symposium and Training Conference, held at the Eureka Springs Convention Center, October 27-30, 2009. EAST students and experienced mappers Cassady, Joey and James demonstrated how EAST students have served Eureka Springs and Carroll County through their various GIS projects that included Fire Hydrant, Springs and Storm Drains, School Bus Routes, and 911 mapping. First year mapper, Jesse, was also present to help.

Later during the Conference, all Eureka Springs High School EAST students visited the Conference's map gallery and met with the various GIS vendors.

The Arkansas GIS Users Forum is a volunteer organization made up of private sector, federal, state, and municipal GIS users that addresses the complex issues surrounding, GIS (Geographic Information Science). This group includes those who develop, use and interact with GIS software. The group works to develop, publish, distribute, and use spatial information to help you get where you are going, know where you have been, or know what's happening around you.

EAST is a high school elective class that encourages students to use advanced technologies in developing service-based community projects. For more information about the EAST Program and to find out how you can help support the EAST Program and its various projects, please contact EAST facilitator Mila Lynne Floro at (479) 253-2936 or (479) 253-8875.
