The administration of federally and state mandated historic preservation programs in California has selected the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School’s EAST Class as one of ten recipients to receive the Governor's Historic Preservation Award for 2004 for their Mission Santa Ines Aqueduct Mapping Project.

The Office of Historic Preservation (OHP), which is responsible for the administration of federally and state mandated historic preservation programs in California has selected the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School’s EAST Class as one of ten recipients to receive the Governor's Historic Preservation Award for 2004 for their Mission Santa Ines Aqueduct Mapping Project. This prestigious award is the only official preservation award presented by the State of California to recipients in recognition of outstanding achievements in historic preservation.  Begun in 1986 by then Governor George Deukmejian, these awards recognize the involvement and preservation activities of community groups. The award was announced during the August 6, 2004 meeting of the Office of Historic Preservation and Santa Ynez EAST class was notified by Mr. Milford Donaldson FAIA. Further details of the project are available at the CA Dept of Parks and Recreation  http://www.ohp.parks.ca.gov/.  Recipients of the 2004 award received their awards at a presentation ceremony held at the State Capitol in November 2004.
