Competition invites STEM-focused, collaborative projects to tackle fire safety.

The Paradigm Project, a private foundation, has partnered with the American Red Cross to launch a project-based, service learning competition with cash prizes and a trip to Los Angeles for the top finishers. Details of the announcement follow:

Did you know that home fires kill more Americans than earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornados combined? Youth are invited to use science, technology, engineering, math, kindness, creativity, and collaboration to help save lives.

Presented in a kid-friendly and empowering way, the Paradigm Challenge guides students through the scientific method, and promotes collaborative and project-based learning. The Paradigm Challenge allows students to complete an important service project in a fun and interesting way. The deadline to submit ideas is May 1, 2016. Welcome are inventions, videos, posters, messages, community events, websites, games, apps, and any other solution that might help reduce the massive harm caused by home fires.

The top three teams in each age division will receive substantial cash prizes as well as a trip to Los Angeles (First and Grand Prize Winners) to attend the Project Paradigm Awards Ceremony.  If you or any of your colleagues are interested in pursuing the Paradigm Challenge, please access http://www.projectparadigm.org/ to begin. If you have any further questions, please contact carrie.fox@redcross.org or 405-228-9504.
