The Little Rock Film Festival is proud to announce that our teen filmmaker, Christopher Scribner (17) of eStem High Public Charter School, has won a Student Television Award from NATAS Mid-America chapter. NATAS is the organization that presents the annual Emmy® Awards.

In January 2014, LRFF launched the Teen Filmmaker Lab, which is a documentary filmmaking program for high school students. In partnership with eStem High Public Charter Schools and the EAST Initiative, and with generous support from the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District, Arkansas Motion Picture Institute and Moses Tucker Real Estate, two students from eStem, Christopher Scribner and Laura Rangel, received intensive training in documentary filmmaking and each produced a short documentary about his or her life. The program was developed and instructed by Mami Kuwano Renaud and the students were mentored by filmmakers Craig and Brent Renaud, co-founders of LRFF.

“Three Wishes One Choice,” directed by Christopher Scribner, tells a personal story of Christopher losing his sister Roshundalyn and cousin Xavier to tragic car accidents. In addition, Christopher’s little sister, Lirit, is currently fighting brain tumors. The film is about a family trying to stay strong and keep a positive outlook in the face of multiple deaths. This film won an Audience Award for Best High School Film at Washington DC Independent Film Festival on March 1, 2015.

“Three Wishes One Choice” will screen during the 2015 Little Rock Film Festival (May 11-17). Christopher Scribner (writer/ director) and Laura Rangel (cinematographer) will be presented with a Student Pillar at the 39th Mid-America Student Awards in St. Louis on October 3, 2015.
