Carman McBride, EAST Facilitator at Don R. Roberts Elementary, has been named a 2014 - 2015 Milken Educator.

The EAST Initiative is pleased to share in the announcement of Carman McBride, EAST Facilitator at Don R. Roberts Elementary School in Little Rock, Arkansas, being named a 2014 - 2015 Milken Educator. The award is a prestigious and rare national accolade that brings significant publicity and a $25,000 cash award to the recipient.

McBride was surprised with the announcement during an assembly at Roberts Elementary Tuesday, February 26, when students at the school helped make the announcement.

"I love what I do, I love every single day of it," said McBride, upon accepting the award. "So, this is just icing on the cake. Coming to work is a thrill."

McBride is the first EAST facilitator to receive the recognition; however, EAST Director Dr. David Rainey was named a Milken Educator in 1992 and the EAST program was highlighted by the Milken Foundation in the early days of the Initiative.

"We could not be more proud of Carman," said Matt Dozier, the EAST President and CEO. "All of our facilitators are elite educators but this recognition is proof that a passionate and dedicated leader can make a world-changing difference in the futures of our students."

The EAST program at Roberts Elementary is a finalist for the Timothy R. Stephenson Founder's Award which will be announced at the 2015 EAST National Conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas, March 18.
