The EAST Initiative is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 EAST Conference logo contest, Hunter Duty and Dakotah Martinez from Nettleton Junior High School in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Hunter and Dakotah used Adobe Creative Suite software to design a logo that incorporates a blueprint theme to illustrate the 2015 Conference theme, “Create Today, Improve Tomorrow.”

“We thought of something that had to do with creation and design, but also something that was complicated in a fashion that would look unique yet simple enough to be used as a logo,” Hunter said.

The two EAST students were inspired by ideas from an Adobe tutorial and wanted to use the software to create their entry, not only in hopes of winning the logo contest but to provide them with practical experience that could help build their portfolio for higher education and future careers.

“I thought it would be a cool experience and would help me better learn Adobe Illustrator,” Dakotah said. “Overall, I thought if we win it would be good for scholarships and job applications.”

The two students worked on the logo for several days in their EAST classroom. Their entry was one of more than 360 logo designs submitted.

“We received hundreds of creative designs this year and spent several hours reviewing each entry from all of the talented EAST students,” EAST Event Coordinator Jessica Dunham said. “After narrowing it down to our top picks, the EAST staff chose Dakotah’s and Hunter’s design because we felt it best fit the theme of next year’s Conference.”

The 2015 national EAST Conference is set for March 17 – 19, 2015, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Click here to download the winning logos.
