Vision Building Workshops Announced
3/18/2014 9:06:45 AM

Schools interested in implementing the EAST program are invited to attend April workshops in Batesville and Little Rock.

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and the Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) Initiative are pleased to announce two Vision Building Workshops for Arkansas schools considering implementation of an EAST program.

A workshop will be held Tuesday, April 1, at the Batesville High School (#2 Pioneer Drive, Batesville) from 1:00 p.m. until 4 p.m.  A second workshop will be held Tuesday, April 8, at the EAST Intiative offices (8201 Ranch Boulevard, Little Rock) also from 1:00 p.m. until 4 p.m.

The Vision Building Workshop offers an overview of the Initiative and a chance to see EAST students and projects face-to-face. Matt Dozier, EAST Initiative President and CEO, will present the EAST model and representatives from the Arkansas Department of Education will be on hand to answer questions about this year’s opportunities for startup funding.Additionally, EAST students from the area in elementary, middle, and high schools will share projects and their reflections of the EAST program. This workshop is the best opportunity for prospective EAST schools to see, hear, ask questions and experience EAST in action. This is the time for local teams to begin the process that leads to local school adoption of the EAST program in the local community. It is a required activity for the Arkansas Department of Education Grant Program.

Experience shows EAST programs that see the greatest success are the ones started with the strongest foundation of local support. It is recommended a team of at least five people from different areas of the community attend the meeting. Team members should include a district administrator, building administrator, counselor (or whomever schedules students for classes) and a teacher representative. It is also recommended team members bring representatives from other community groups that support the local school, if possible (parents, school board members, interested members of the business community, district technology staff, curriculum coordinators, etc.).
