Jonesboro Vision 2030

One Vision, One Community

Senior EAST student, Rachel Carmack has been selected to serve as a youth member on Jonesboro Vision 2030 Commission.  The purpose of Jonesboro Vision 2030 is to engage the community in envisioning a future for Jonesboro that addresses the needs and desires of our entire citizenry over the next twenty years.  It will serve as a guide for decisions related to our built and natural environment that is reflective of the priorities of the community and balances the need to accommodate growth while maintaining or improving our life.

The purpose of the committee is to create a framework upon which to build a city of opportunity and promise; to increase our livability as a community and to address the sustainability of our resources for current and future generations, while creating an economy that will thrive in a regional, national, and global marketplace.

Rachel will also be serving as member on the sub-committee of Public Services.  The committee will focus on public education/future education, quality of life, and public safety and public services.  As a member of the commission, Rachel will give voice for the community to relate their ideas for Jonesboro Vision 2030.  Each member will reach out to social and personal networks to get their ideas of what they would like to see in a comprehensive plan.

Rachel presented video footage to the 40 committee members and to the mayor of Jonesboro.  She and two other EAST students have been capturing video footage on our city’s quality of life.  They have videoed parks and recreation, walkability, culture and entertainment, education, historic preservation, and services for our elderly and disabled populations.  The video will be used by logging on to the site and clicking on the logo and accessing the Facebook page.
