DHS EAST students recently worked with students from Dardanelle Elementary to develop public-service oriented TV “commercials”. DHS EAST students Toby, Zac, Rane and Lucas recently worked with Mrs. Brown’s 6th-grade gifted and talented students from Dardanelle Elementary to develop public-service oriented TV “commercials”.

After receiving a $10,000 grant through the 21st Century Grant process to upgrade lab equipment, EAST students and the GT students worked for a period of six weeks developing three TV commercials.

Working in teams through pre-production, production and post-production, the elementary students developed ideas, wrote the scripts, created storyboards, shot raw footage using green screen technology, and edited the videos to produce the final products.

The students used Photoshop and Adobe Premiere video editing software to complete the projects. Rane’s team created an anti-smoking PSA, Zac’s team created a plea to send help to Japan and Toby’s team created a movie trailer for an upcoming movie.

At the conclusion of the six weeks, the students premiered their commercials for parents. The GT students reported to the audience what they had learned during the process and thanked the EAST students for their time and help in creating something they were very proud of.

Each student received a certificate of participation and a DVD copy of the all of the commercials, plus a short video documenting their after-school experience working with DHS EAST students in the EAST classroom.
