Team expands skills to promote distracted driving awareness.

Students from Pope and Yell Counties attended a mid-winter retreat sponsored by the River Valley Prevention Coalition to expand their skills to assist the students working in their schools on issues of distracted driving. The February retreat was held at the Westside Church of Christ in Russellville. The following Dardanelle EAST students attended the meeting: Yushia, Tanner (DHS Students Against Underage Drinking team leader), Zac, Teddy, Tyler, Tanner, Justin, and Courtney.

The students attended breakout sessions that involved issues of time management for maximizing their prevention coalition, talking to their peers about underage drinking and driving, and marketing and planning their prevention coalition. The DHS EAST students presented their public service announcements involving texting and driving and anti-drinking and driving, plus discussed future projects involved in distracted driving.

The DHS EAST students are using a variety of software to develop their SAUD projects. These software applications run from developing posters by using Publisher and Photoshop, Word by creating pledge cards, to using Adobe Premiere and After Effects for videos.

Tanner and Justin will represent the Dardanelle group with the organization committee of the upcoming "Youth Celebration 2011" to be held in April.
