132 third- through sixth-grade EAST students teamed up to share the EAST story with over 200 parents and community members. Visitors got to see firsthand the exciting things these young students are accomplishing.

Malvern, Arkansas (November 18, 2010) – 132 Malvern Elementary and Wilson Intermediate EAST students joined forces to host their annual “EAST Night Out” on Thursday, November 18, 2010, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the Wilson Intermediate School cafeteria.

The event was a huge success with over 220 parents and community members coming out to see what EAST is, and to hear about all the exciting projects the kids are working on. We were also very pleased to have Ms. Melanie Bradford from the Arkansas Department of Education along with 8 other VIP guests.

There were twenty-seven student led booths for the guests to visit. The students shared information about the EAST projects they have completed and the projects they are working on. Guests saw first-hand the hard work, dedication and real-world experience being gained in the EAST classroom, and what it means for the community. Currently the students are working on projects to benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the USO, Animal Shelter, their peers, and the community as a whole.

EAST focuses on student-driven service projects through the use of the latest in technology. The video “EAST: Education is Different Here” played continually throughout the night for the guest to view. Cookies and punch were served to the guests as they visited the booths.

“The evening was a huge success,” stated Brigette Jones, MES EAST facilitator. “The kids did an amazing job setting up their booths. It was awesome to see the excitement on their faces as they shared their ideas and projects with the guests. We heard nothing but positive things about the students and the EAST program in general.”
