EAST Begins Rural Broadband Project
The EAST Rural Broadband Project is a collaborative effort between the EAST Initiative and the Arkansas Science and Technology Authority (ASTA) that is engaging students and communities in the ArkLaTex and Delta regions of Arkansas to address issues related to entrepreneurial development of broadband, high speed internet in rural areas of the state. This project is made possible through a grant from the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation.

California Secretary of Education Alan Bersin recently visited three California EAST programs to personally hear student presentations. "EAST is the future of education in California", he said. "There are many things that EAST is teaching you here... These skills will help you succeed in school, in college and in the real world."

Monticello EAST Students Receive Award from Attorney General
Monticello EAST students recently received the "Star of Excellence Award," presented each year by Attorney General (now Governor-Elect) Mike Beebe to honorees who have made a significant difference in protecting children. The students were recognized for their work in Internet safety and child identification.

EAST Initiative Awarded SBC Foundation Grant

EAST Initiative Awarded SBC Foundation Grant
The EAST Initiative received a $23,250 SBC Excellerator grant from the SBC Foundation to develop the EAST Learning Portal. The Portal will make advanced technology training available to EAST students via the web 24-7.
