Student Training

The Initiative provides technical training for students in the various technologies and software programs available in the EAST classroom. Classes are held at EAST Training Centers and regional locations throughout the school year, as well as online. Courses are taught by industry professionals and trained educators.

Facilitator Training

EAST classrooms are led by specially trained instructors called facilitators, who guide and encourage the students as they identify community problems and seek to solve them. Using sound educational theory and practice, EAST Initiative staff and educators conduct the training in phases over the course of a school year. Facilitators with one year of EAST experience then continue their professional development with an annual Summer Seminar.

School Support Training

The EAST Logistics, Management, and Administrative (ELMA) workshop is designed to help strengthen local EAST programs by presenting specific topics pertaining to various aspects of the program and by preparing and assisting all levels of district and building staff to support the program.

The EAST Initiative sponsors a number of events throughout the year for students, facilitators and the public.

Annual EAST Conference

Each year EAST students and their facilitators from all over the country attend the national conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas to present their work from the past year. Students experience a trade show-like environment including exhibits, break-out sessions and a gala awards banquet. It is the highlight of the year for EAST programs nationwide and provides another excellent learning experience for students.

Facilitator Summer Seminar

The Summer Seminar is designed to provide valuable ongoing professional development for EAST facilitators in a casual and relaxed atmosphere that allows for collaboration and sharing. Each year it is held in a different Arkansas city and is attended by facilitators with at least one year of EAST experience.

EAST Night Out

EAST Night Out is an opportunity for classrooms across the country to share their projects with the public by hosting open house events. Most participating schools hold their events on the same evening in the Fall. Community and business leaders, media and parents are invited to visit their local EAST classrooms at that time to learn more about the program and see the results.
