2009 EAST Conference
Food Drive

In EAST, one of the ways we help students grow is by helping them see the true value and power of service. Beginning this year, the EAST Conference will expand on that idea of service by working with an organization that can use our help and showing the world what can happen when the EAST family comes together to serve.

This year we will be working with Feeding America. Feeding America’s mission is to “feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.” This organization “distributes more than 2 billion pounds of food and grocery products to more than 200 food banks and food-rescue organizations in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico each year.”(www.feedingamerica.org)

How we can help
We recently learned that Peanut Butter is a food item that is rarely donated because it is more expensive than some of the other items requested on their top 10 list. However, this one item is extremely high in protein, very nutritious, does not need to be refrigerated, and has a long shelf life. Our goal for the 2009 EAST Conference is to collect at least one (1) container of peanut butter from each participant of EAST – not just those coming to the event. This includes students, facilitators, EAST staff, and even our Conference business exhibitors who will be attending the event.

Specifics

  • Containers of Peanut Butter will be collected on Tuesday, March 3rd at the exhibit hall entrance table.  Please make sure that your donations are in plastic or metal containers - no glass jars.
  • You will receive a certificate or other form of documentation to hang in your booth that recognizes the amount of peanut butter collected.  This may be measured by weight or serving size.
  • The EAST program that donates the most Peanut Butter will be recognized during the closing session on Thursday, March 5th.

Bring the following form with you to expedite your donation drop off.  Thanks!!

Peanut Butter Donation Record

A local food bank will collect the donation during the closing session and shortly after the event we will be notified of the total weight of Peanut Butter collected.

We are really excited about working with this organization for this event. We look forward to your involvement in making our first year to “give back” a successful one.
